Whatever your skill levels, from beginners to experienced film photographers, there is a space for you to come and make prints.
We provide training courses and workshops in darkroom techniques for beginners and advanced users, under the expert tutelage of John Arnison MA, a professional photographer with many years experience and a former tutor of black and white photography at Leeds University of Arts. We also run courses on using your film camera to ensure your negatives are correctly exposed. Check out our Eventbrite page for upcoming courses & workshops.

Wet Plate Collodion Workshop
The historic wet collodion process from 1851 was one of the original processes used by early photographers. Learn how to flow, expose, and develop a 5x4 plate (glass & tin), in a friendly, small group (max 6) environment, with Lens Lab Leeds and Aire Street Darkrooms.
During this one day workshop you will have the opportunity to try out both glass and tin plates, to make collodion positives (Tintypes & Ambrotypes), using a 5x4 camera. All chemistry and equipment will be provided, and you will be able to take home your washed and finished plates at the end of the day. Working in pairs the workshop will focus on portraiture, but other subjects could also be explored.
This introductory workshop is suitable for anyone with an interest in photography. Lunch and refreshments will be included. Tickets are on a first come first serve basis.

Black & White Photography - An introduction

Perfect for those with no experience or those looking for a full refresher.
The course will run for 5 consecutive weeks from the start date and needs a minimum of 2 people enrolled to run.
